Toothache is something very common that you should take into consideration, it shows that something is not right in your mouth. For this reason, you should know how toothache appears and in this way you can also avoid the symptoms and pains that they bring.

Today we are going to know everything you need to know so you can have healthy habits with your teeth.

Toothache causes

There are many causes of toothache. Among the most common causes you will the following:

  • Tooth decay is the most common cause of toothache, especially when it is not treated and a process is taking place inside the tooth.
  • When you have fillings that are very large, you can also present huge pain, especially when it affects the nerve. In some cases, the filling can also be fractured, what makes the toothache quite strong.
  • The eruption of the third molars can lead to a lot of pain in the teeth, especially if you do not have enough space for them to come out. The pain is due to the huge inflammation that occurs in the area.
  • Fractures in the enamel: It happens the same as with fillings, when a fracture occurs in the enamel of the tooth or even a fissure or crack it causes a lot of pain. In all cases, these are associated with harmful habits such as bruxism or clenching the teeth more than necessary.
  • Another common cause is dental hypersensitivity, which is related to loss of gum. This is due to high consumption of acidic foods.

As you can see, there are many causes of toothache, so you should take this into account to determine the origin of the pain.

Bruxism is quite common

It is very important to note that one of the main causes of toothache is associated with bruxism. The grinding of the teeth is more frequent than you may think and it can produce an overload on the teeth by the clenching of the jaws.

It is quite frequent to see fractures in the molars derived from bruxism, as well as muscular or temporo-mandibular joint pain. It is recommended to visit the dentist regularly because it is a pathology that must be corrected as soon as possible to avoid further damage in the future.

¿What pathologies produce chronic or recurrent pain?

There are long-term pathologies that can occur with discomfort in the molars periodically. One of the most common pathologies is periodontal disease or periodontitis. This chronic disease causes receding of the gums and it can cause a lot of pain in the teeth.

It can have multiple causes from poor brushing to chemical causes such as those caused by gastric reflux. On the other hand, xerostomia, which is also known as dry mouth disease, can stimulate the appearance of caries. That is the reason why if you face the slightest symptoms that something is wrong, you should solve the problems as soon as possible.

¿How can you help reduce toothache?

It is very important to note that there are certain practices that will help reduce toothache effectively. Among the main ones can find:

Dental Floss

Flossing should be recurrent, especially since interdental caries can occur if hygiene is not adequate. Also if there are remains of food between the molars this can cause a huge inflammation of the area leading to a recurrent pain.

Warm water with salt

This is a technique that can improve the cleanliness of the mouth which helps to eliminate bacteria and thus reduce the chances of infection. In any case, you can also use mouthwash to take care of your teeth and gums and keep them healthy.

Medicaction

El Ibuprofeno es un antiinflamatorio que ayuda a aliviar el dolor de muelas, que sea tu odontólogo el que te lo recomiende ya que dependiendo de cada paciente y el tipo de dolor la dosis será diferente.

Ice pack on the face

Ice is known for its help to decrease pain as it will reduce inflammation. Ice should be placed on the point of pain, although if it is a dentin hypersensitivity pain this will produce more pain, so you need to make sure that you identify the source of the pain before using this technique.

It is very important to note that these treatments are not a substitute for a regular visit to the dentist. So you must go to the dentist regularly so that you can always have the expected results. In addition, you must avoid very hot and cold foods so you don’t expose your teeth to sudden changes in temperature.

¿When should I visit the dentist?

Toothache may need treatment by a professional, especially when we talk about the following cases:

  • Pain persists even with pain relievers
  • There is recurrent pain that appears a few days after relieving
  • There is gums bleeding for 2 or 3 days
  • You have a lot of sensitivity in your teeth what prevents you from eating easily
  • You can see a visible fracture of the tooth or its filling

You should visit the dentist at least once every 6 months, so you can have early detection of caries, infiltrated resins or fractures in the teeth. Also accompanied by regular brushing of the teeth, you can avoid problems that can cause recurring pain in your teeth.

If you follow all the advice they we have given you throughout this post, we assure you will alleviate and mitigate toothache in a suitable way
