Psychological problems of a poorly cared mouth

Psychological problems of a poorly cared mouth

17 de October de 2020patricia CarrascoUncategorizedNo Comments

A poorly cared mouth doesn’t start and finishes in the mouth itself. No way. It is something bigger.

It can seem to you we are being excessive, but experts have detected a strong relationship between both scenarios. A person with oral problems can develop hard psychological problems.

Stress in your daily routine and in your mouth

Stress is one of the most common ailments we can find in society. And much more in the XXI century.

Symptoms like nervousness, stomach pain, or difficulty swallowing can be some symptoms. These are signs that a person can have as a consequence of poor oral health. The fact is, are we really conscious of the importance of projecting a good image within this competitive world we live in?

A non-attractive smile, the lack of teeth, or the dirt, among others, can be important factors that can stop us to offer our best version of ourselves. This can lead to fewer conversations, have a poor relationship with our mates, and as a consequence, live in continuous stress for not knowing how to hide our mouth.

Anxiety and constant insecurity

Anxiety and insecurity can be two common problems in our daily routine.

In this case, it is not necessary to talk about malformation in the mouth but another problem that can be even more important. We are talking about bad breath. Bad breath can come from other areas of our organism as stomach or by the presence of certain food in mouth. We talk about:

  • Food scraps that get embedded between the teeth.
  • Bacteria that proliferate due to poor oral hygiene.
  • Dirt like tartar.
  • The presence of harmful residues such as tobacco or alcohol.

Well, the presence of these substances will cause a breath that will not be pleasant for anyone. And few situations can be more unpleasant than having a conversation with a person with bad breath. That is why insecurity will grow up in this person giving place to anxiety in case it lasts over time.

Irritability in your behavior and in your mouth

So far we have approached psychological disorders from the point of view of the image that we can project. However, all of this can become much more physical. More tangible. We are talking about having an irritable character due to the continued presence of oral pain. Mouth pain can appear as a result of a deficiency in the chewing of food. Something so simple, apparently, like that, can cause us continuous discomfort in our stomachs.

  • Bowel pain.
  • Flatulence due to excess gas.
  • Diarrhea.

It is something logical. If we are not capable of processing food in our mouth in a correct way, it will be really difficult for our stomach to process food in optimal conditions. A non-favorable scenario where the pain is the star. A pain that not only will not allow us to enjoy our professional life but also our personal life and daily routine.

Low general self-esteem

Once we have analyzed each problem and we have detected which are the consequences that they can have, it is the moment to value all as a group. Low self-esteem is the worst scenario we can find. A limit situation where oral problems affect us in a superlative way.

It is striking that in this case, the last one on the list that we have raised, we may be in the treatment phase. It may even be that we have successfully addressed some of the dental problems that we dragged. So why do we suffer from this problem?

The answer it’s in the time this person has been suffering stress, anxiety and irritability for too long. And now it is complicated to come back to the current situation.

Importance of going to a mental health professional

In addition, this drop in self-esteem is not beneficial for any of the most common areas of life. It can lead to depression, for example. An extreme that should not be reached especially if we take into account that oral problems can be tackled with resounding success today.

All these problems we just talked about can have different levels of seriousness. Not all people are affected in the same way, but that is not why they should be ignored.

In fact, even if the problem has been treated by a dentist, all these psychological symptoms remain. Hence the importance of always going to a mental health professional.

Prevention as the main weapon

On the other hand, and in order to avoid these ailments we have talked about previously, it is always recommended.

When we talked about prevention, we talked about periodical visits to the dentist and personal care. This is the only way we can handle problems that are in their initial phase and are not really serious.

  • Deficiencies in teeth.
  • Cleanings that prevent excess dirt and associated problems.
  • Implantation of measures such as brackets that allow us to have a better image.

We would like to add that thanks to the financing possibilities of the vast majority of dental clinics, almost all dental treatments are accessible to all patients. An advantage that decades ago was not offered by all dental clinics, but today is a constant. So, ¿why not to take advantage of this moment?
