¿Es bueno o no enjuagarse los dientes después cepillado?

Is it good or not to rinse your teeth after brushing them?

4 de November de 2019patricia CarrascoUncategorizedNo Comments

When children begin their early stages of life, they will mimic their parents’ habits. Therefore, it is essential to know whether or not to rinse your teeth after brushing, because it is a crucial point to keep in mind so that you can enjoy good oral health.

Typically, when we are brushing our teeth, we finish the brushing process and immediately start rinsing them with water. However, in this text, we will discover if this is correct or not, I invite you to continue reading so that you have the information firsthand.

Should you rinse your teeth with water after brushing?

Indeed, a large part of society today follows this procedure, and immediately after brushing, they proceed to rinse their teeth. However, this is a big mistake that has been instilled over the years.

The correct procedure for brushing would be to spit out the excess toothpaste, and not rinse with water. This is the proper procedure according to the National Health Service of Scotland, who demonstrated that this might increase the risk of dental caries.

The reason for this is very simple since rinsing reduces the preventive effect of caries that has fluoride that is present in most toothpaste. Therefore, you should teach your children to spit out excess toothpaste instead of rinsing it.

It is essential to keep in mind that, another important factor in the prevention of tooth decay is the proper choice of toothpaste. Because good oral hygiene will depend greatly on this.

How should you choose toothpaste?

It is crucial to keep in mind that the best option is always to choose a fluoride toothpaste. Although there is always a fear that children will swallow toothpaste, which until recently was related to excessive intake of fluoride, and that produces abnormalities in the formation of tooth enamel.

On the other hand, dentifrices that have minimum concentrations of 1000 ppm or more are effective for caries reduction. To choose a toothpaste well, you must be the child’s age, considering the following:

Babies

It is considered to prevent tooth decay and avoid problems due to high concentrations of fluoride. Toothpaste for babies up to 3 years, must have a maximum concentration of 1000ppm fluoride ion.

Children over 3 years and later

It should be taken into consideration that children from 3 years to 6 years of age should use toothpaste that has between 1000 and 1450ppm of fluoride ion. While when they are over 6 years of age, they can use toothpastes with higher concentrations of 1450ppm.

Even many oral health professionals and the Spanish Society and Pediatric Dentistry, recommend increasing the amount of ppm to 5000, depending on the risk of caries that the child may have.

Why should tooth decay be prevented?

It is vitally important to know that this is a chronic disease, which is very common in childhood and is currently very common in childhood. This has a high prevalence in Spanish school settings and is usually associated with high sugar consumption.

To prevent it, there is no better way than to have a good tooth brushing with a cream that meets all the standards and indications we have already given. However, if a good brushing process is not carried out, tooth decay can also occur, even if the cream has a high concentration of fluoride.

For these reasons, it should be borne in mind that toothpaste rinsing should always be avoided. Thus, fluoride can act as a barrier by strengthening the teeth, thus preventing dental caries from occurring.

Always remember to teach this to your children, and thus the risk of suffering from tooth decay will be drastically reduced. Achieving better oral health, and without having to worry at all about the teeth that may be affected by this chronic disease
