El problema de las encías inflamadas

The problem of inflamed gums

12 de September de 2019patricia CarrascoUncategorizedNo Comments

Before talking about the implications that an inflamed gum may have and what its possible treatments may be, it must be made very clear that this ailment occurs when a gum is shown to have a swollen appearance or something more prominent than normal. An effect that can be observed visually without much effort, for example, when brushing.

Why can this inflammation occur?

To tell the truth, there can be several causes. However, among the most common we can highlight the following.

  • Inflammation of the gums may be due to temporary irritation of the area.
  • It may also be due to an excess of bacteria, which has caused an infection.
  • A food deficit, especially due to a lack of vitamins, can be a fairly common cause.
  • There are also other cases of a more complicated control, in the case of women, due to hormonal disorders at certain stages of their lives such as pregnancy.

In either case, what we need to be clear about is that this is a problem that needs attention. If this is not the case, it can become complicated, giving rise to the dreaded gingivitis or even worse, periodontitis.

How can we act on this problem?

There are many ways to act today. This is not surprising, especially if we consider that 35% of the adult population at some point in their lives have had problems with their gums. A reality that has led to the development of specific treatments that can put an end to this ailment.

The importance of oral hygiene

This is something we can only consider vital. A very common cause of inflamed gums, as we have already said, is the accumulation of bacteria.

This makes it advisable to brush your mouth 2 to 3 times a day, especially after meals. Also, and in conjunction with brushing, it is recommended to use dental floss in order to reach those remains of food difficult to access.

Use a quality mouthwash

The use of mouthwashes is very important to maintain healthy gums. This is due to the fact that these remedies incorporate a series of active principles that completely eliminate those bacteria that can remain adhered to the surface of the gum.

However, before using any type of rinse, consult a specialist. He alone is the one who has the most elements of judgment to know whether that mouthwash is the one that should be used or, on the contrary, is not the appropriate one.

Maintain good hydration

This detail has its origin in a basic principle. The vast majority of our body is water and this is very important for the proper functioning of it. The water prevents the gums from drying out which can make inflammation and irritation a fact. In addition a correct hydration allows our immune system to work in a more optimized way which allows it to better combat the possible problems that we may have gums.

Forget tobacco and alcohol

It really can’t be any other way. Whether we want to see it or not, alcohol and tobacco are two sources of toxins that can directly affect the gums. And not only that, because in both cases these substances depress our immune system which means that it is not in optimal conditions to combat the bacteria that can make act of presence.

And all this with the added problem that both the consumption of tobacco and alcohol can have other consequences in terms of our oral health.

Don’t forget to visit your dentist

Although this recommendation is always made when you want to treat or prevent oral problems, it is no less true that in this case is even more important. And it is for one simple reason. The gums are ultimately responsible for supporting our teeth. Consequently, weak or diseased gums can cause teeth to become detached.

In addition, regular visits to the dentist will not only allow the specialist to choose an appropriate treatment. It will also allow you to detect possible inflammations in them so that more complex ailments can be prevented.

As a final conclusion, it can be said that prevention is the key to everything that has to do with gum inflammation. Proper hygiene, taking some healthy measures and visiting the dentist can be more than enough gestures not to have serious gum problems that can affect our overall health.
